iah-009-slip-cropGRASONVILLE, MD – Monday morning – Whenever I want a versatile one-size-fits-all gift, I grab for my Aleene’s Fast Grab Tacky Glue, scrapbook paper, ribbon and 7-day candle blanks.  These candles are a super value for under $2 at your local grocery store. At my local store, they come in clear glass and the candle color choices were pink, blue or white.

Decorated, they make great gifts for housewarmings, birthdays, a new baby, Mother’s Day, graduation, hostess gifts and much more! And, best of all, when the candle has burned down, you just slip off the cover and put it right back on a new 7-day. The steps are super easy!  On these three candles, I used two 12″ x 12″ scrapbook papers – one regular paper weight and one cardstock weight (for the laced slip-cover). Measure paper to fit around glass cylinder. Add 1″ to width to allow for overlap at seam. Apply glue along edge of paper. Wrap around candle cylinder and press glued edge over opposite edge of paper.  Hold seam, continuing to press for just a short while until glue holds. (After all, it is Fast Grab!) Then, glue ribbons and embellishments into place to accent your candle slip cover. Use the leftover scraps of each of the papers by gluing together and then glue around the third candle. And add a pretty little paper posie!

For the laced candle cover, use the cardstock weight. Measure to fit around candle cylinder and deduct 1″ from measurement. Use your iah-009-slip-v2-crop1ruler to mark wrong side of paper at 1/2″ intervals (or if you want your lacing spaced farther apart, set your marks at 1″ intervals). Punch holes where marked. Determine length of ribbon for lacing. My candle was approximately 8″ tall and it took 51″ of ribbon for lacing!

You can also use this technique for the “junior” version on a votive candle holder.

Just remember that you always want to glue paper to paper so that you can slip off the slip covers when the candles have burned down. Have a marvelously creative Monday! >>Tiffany P.S. Don’t forget!  Our NEW Radio Show starts Sunday April 26th at 7 pm ET.  Best of all, you can listen on your computer! Click here for details!
