Herban Living – the herbs are sprouting up!
GRASONVILLE, MD – Thursday morning – Don’t you just love spring! Spring is my most favorite season of the year. I love all the fresh, new hues of green that have popped out all over. It’s always a feeling of renewal that makes you want to take a deep breath and announce that life is great!
I love to see the plants beginning to bloom and they grow so fast. We have had an abundance of rain and we are most thankful as we started spring with a rain deficit. The herbs are just growing and growing by inches a day (it sure looks like some of them are just magical as they grow sooo fast).
The vegetable garden is finally ready to plant but it has been so rainy that I haven’t gotten around to it. I hope to get the seeds into the ground this week as it is usually safe to plant here in Maryland after Mother’s Day. So that’s the gardening news from here. I will keep you posted on the progress of our garden.
We belong to a local organic farm (CSA) and should start receiving some of the early spring crop at the end of this month. It’s going to be so good to get back into cooking with really fresh organic produce. I confess I have gotten a little lazy with my menu planning and cooking but when the fresh produce from the farm start arriving, we have to start cooking so we can use up every bit of its goodness before the next week’s delivery. Some days the question is how many ways can we use argula this week or find another recipe for mustard or turnip greens. Anyhow, happy spring!
