Loren’s Creative Time
LOS OSOS, CA – Sunday morning – It has been a busy week and yet I haven’t been able to put in a lot of design time. Creative time, yes! Last weekend started with a visit from my husband’s son Brian and family, which includes our youngest granddaughter, Loren (just turned 5). She loves to create in my studio and this was the first time she was able to make use of the brand new studio.
She didn’t really seem to be ‘impressed’ with the new studio, she just knew she was going to be able to spend time creating with Grandma Heidi. Since her birthday was just last week, she was able to open her presents from us when she arrived. Of course what did I buy her…. crafts!! I bought her a jewelry kit and a scrapbook kit (along with lots of other assorted items). We started with the jewelry kit, but I could tell it wasn’t going to hold her attention very long. She wasn’t the least bit interested in threading the beads onto a cord. She did like sorting the charms to be attached to a charm bracelet (but I had to do the attaching). When I mentioned scrapbook … no she wasn’t going there!!
What did she want? She wanted to paint and decorate AND she was very specific. She wanted to paint two boxes, a round and a heart shape, glue on her name and a friend’s name. She knew what color she wanted, she knew she wanted to glue rhinestones onto the boxes. She crafted with ease and patience and with such detail. She also knew when she was done. She knew when enough sparkle was enough. Then I asked if she wanted to do the scrapbook. She very proudly looked at her creations that she had made for her and her friend with love and said “No! I’m done …Thank you Grandma Heidi.”
Did I mention she just turned 5? It was a wonderfully creative day.>>Heidi
